The “Mad Records Showcase” went down as planned at the Prospect Billiards Cafe on April 25, 2017. Despite the downpour outside, DJ Guttah was still motivating a full house of industry insiders and unsigned talent. The event had numerous regulars in the building; Ruger Red, K5, King Luke and JD5 The Rilla for starters. Two personal favs of mine, Choppo Troublez and Calina Stacks performed flawless sets; I have come to expect no less from them.
Several newcomers were on deck as well and featured The Venture Clan, Von Dotta, Peter K. and Deana Diamonds. Peter K. had my attention before he opened his mouth. After all, he was Irish with red hair and quiet; observing others as they performed. Overall, his thought process is there. He laid his tracks over Tupac’s “Changes” which drew attention to his set; I look forward to what else he has in store. The Venture Clan was the most diverse for me with respect to message, flow, and versatility. I was also into their fashion sense and stage prescience. Deana Diamonds brought a new energy to the scene when she started singing. Her voice reminded me of Ameriie with a Keyshia Cole vibe to match; a style far and few between today. She is beautiful and knows how to command the stage and people’s attention; she is the winner in my opinion, and I look forward to seeing more from her. Unfortunately, this is my final time hosting the “Mad Records Showcase”. Professionalism and respect are extremely important to me; especially as a woman in a male dominated industry. Despite the promoter, Figga Face, not having my fee the day of the performance, I hosted as scheduled. It was more important to me to maintain the same quality atmosphere for the paid artists, that they have come to expect from his event, when I host. With that said, I wish him the best but choose to work with individuals who share my work ethic. Math, producer of The Vandal Hour on DTF Radio, is one such person. He invited me to host his next event, “The Lost Art of the Wordsmith” which he is producing in conjunction with “Checks and Balances”. The event takes place from 6pm-12am on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Karma Lounge, located at 51 First Avenue, New York, NY 10003. If you would like to perform, please reach out to me directly.
